Achieving your goals requires that you go another step beyond your imagined limits. When you feel like giving up take another step and you will be rewarded.

Most people give up just when they’re about to achieve success. They quit on the one yard line. They give up at the last minute of the game one foot from a winning touchdown.
~ Ross Perot

Your success will be determined in great measure by your ability to persist inspite of the strong urge to give up. You will need to develop tactics which help you to maintain your intensity and motivation.

One of the best ways to stay motivated is to keep your attention the rewards that your goal striving efforts are going to give you. Keep your eye on the prize. If your dream is big enough you will not have to fret over maintaining motivation.

Focus on where you are going rather than where you have been. Keep your attention centered on what you want rather than the problems and setbacks that you are faced with. Remember energy goes where attention flows. So fix your attention to your major aspiration and do not switch it back to your problems. This way you will continue to get more answers as well as more options for achieving your goal.

You don’t have to get everything right in order to succeed. There is a saying called failing forward. You can actually move forward by messing up from time to time. I want you to think about something that people experience in everyday airline travel. An airplane which travels from one city to another will wonder off course many times during the flight. Actually there are many course corrections during a typical flight across the country. The airplane may be off course 90percent of the time and yet it still arrives at the target destination on time.

Success is the same way. You may not end up where you wanted to go with the plan that you currently have. You may have to adjust and readjust before you finally succeed.

Do not put unreasonable pressure on yourself to be perfect. You do not have to get everything exactly right in order to move forward. Hitting your goal does not require perfection. Just begin taking massive action and continue to make corrections as you get better information. When you cultivate persistence you will begin to build momentum. As you gain momentum you will find it easier to overcome the usual setbacks that you encounter while striving to hit your goal.

Focus on your activity. Gain expertise from people who specialize in the arena that you want to excel in. You can learn from your mistakes and then get advice for improving your results. Get started, make improvements and don’t quit.

by Anthony D Carter

Goal achievement contributes to increased happiness and fulfillment. In order to consistently hit your goals you need a process that yields dependable results. Here is a 5 point game plan for successfully setting and achieving goals.

Dream big. Do a dream building session in which you identify everything that you would like to do, be and have in your life. Really let yourself go. Perhaps you want a new car. Or maybe you want to have your ideal body weight. You may even want to be a classically trained pianist. No matter what it is do not limit yourself. Act as if anything were possible and set your sites on the dream that resonates the most with you.

Write it out. Now write that dream down. Then map out a plan for making it come true. Write your goals out and look at them on a regular basis. Establish your work habits by creating a checklist and marking off the tasks as you complete each one.

Take action now. After you have determined what your goal is and you have mapped out a game plan you want to begin taking action immediately. Do not worry if you make mistakes in the beginning. Fear of failure is the number one thing that holds most people back. As you continue to take action your results will improve. You will start achieving the goals that you set in direct proportion to the amount of action that you take.

Monitor and adjust. Keep a journal of your progress. All of your successes and failures are kept in their proper prospective when you record them in your journal. You are able to go back and read your entries without being so emotionally involved. While reading your regular entries you are able to see whether you are progressing or regressing. Then you can adjust your plan accordingly. This helps you to stay on track while not succumbing to frustration and disappointment.

Persist until completion. So much of your success with achieving goals occurs beyond the point where you felt like giving up. If you do not quit you will eventually succeed. When you feel like stopping or giving up bring to remembrance your dream. Visualize goals as if they were already accomplished and you have obtained your dream. Imagine what it would feel like. It is your dream that gives you inspiration. This inspiration fuels your motivation. When you are sufficiently motivated you will not have a challenge remaining persistent. You will be able to keep moving forward until you achieve your goal and get what you want.

Maintain high motivation for goals that you set for yourself. You can do it if you follow certain keys that help you stay motivated. Avoid these mistakes if you want to remain exited and keep moving forward.

Resigned to Status Quo. Frustration with lack of results can cause you to say, “What’s the use?” You may feel like giving up because your efforts do not seem to be making a difference. Before you know it you are back in your same old comfortable routine. This is what we commonly call being “stuck in a rut.” It seems easier to face the familiar than to keep experiencing failure and frustration.

Solution: Strengthen that winning feeling. We lose our motivation because we lose our resolve. We lose our resolve when we lose our inspiration. And that inspiration comes from the dream. You must remember your reason why. Feel the feeling that you believe you will have once you hit your goal and obtain your dream. If you can focus on the desired result then you can maintain motivation. You must never forget your reason why.

Inconsistent Action. Constant starting and stopping will destroy your initiative. You will lose all momentum and end up drifting along. It is hard to stay motivated if you stop yourself just as you have began to get in a groove with what you are doing. If you take a small amount of action then and then stop you will never develop the work ethic that you need for long-term success.

Solution: Make a personal commitment. And find someone whom you can be accountable to. You need to put strategies in place that cause you to follow through with your plans on a consistent basis. Consistent action will help your state of mind. You will feel more confident. You will also feel like you are contributing to your forward progress with every instance of consistent action that you take.

All Work No Play. You can only work so hard for a limited amount of time before you get burned out. After keeping your nose to the grindstone for extended periods of time you will become more pessimistic than optimistic. If you work constantly without taking a vacation you will develop the belief that you are destined to work hard without ever enjoying the fruits of your labor. All work without any pleasure will cause you to become fed up with the process. Eventually you will lose your motivation and quit.

Solution: You have to lighten up and relax from time to time. But, it is best if you pre-plan your down time. That way you are not checking out every time you face a struggle. When you schedule in vacations you give yourself time to recharge your batteries. After stepping away for awhile you will gain a new perspective on what you are trying to accomplish. This gets you excited about picking up where you left off. When you start again you will do so with increased motivation and renewed vigor.

Goal achievement goes hand and hand with successful living. Setting goals helps you to accomplish great things. In order to hit the goals that you set keep these 5 keys in mind.

Write. Be sure to write your goals down. It has been said that the palest ink is better than the sharpest memory. When you write your goals down you start the process towards causing them to materialize in your life. A written statement of what you are striving to be, do, or have can keep you focused and on track.

Read. Reading your goals everyday helps to keep your attention centered on what you are trying to accomplish. If you do not continue to read your goals regularly the daily situations and circumstances will pull your focus in opposite directions.

Affirm. Speak positive affirmations. When you speak affirmations you help to impress your goal onto your subconscious mind. Speaking affirmations also help you to center your focus on what you want and off of what you don’t want.

Visualize. Create mental pictures of what you want to accomplish. You will have a easier time hitting your goals if you can visualize the end result that you desire. A vision board helps too. When you visualize what you want you trick your subconscious mind into believing that actually have what you want. The more that you can do that the more your subconscious will guide you to solutions for overcoming your obstacles.

Persist. Above all you need persistence in order to realize your dreams. You must stick it out even when you don’t get the quick results. As long as your plan is sound and you are consistently doing the work you will eventually succeed in hitting your goals.

By Anthony D Carter

When we miss hitting our goals our first tendency is to stop and fret over the failure that we experienced. Even though that is a common reaction it does not have to be a lasting condition. Here are three keys to moving beyond the paralyzing effects of failure.

1 – Get over it. You tried and failed. It is no big deal. Everyone fails from time to time. The best hitters in baseball also strike out the most. The best prolific quarterbacks have some of the highest interception numbers as well. Michael Jordan once said, “I have missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I have lost almost 300 games. On 26 occasions I have been entrusted to take the game winning shot… and missed. And I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

2 – Get up. The only time failure is permanent is when you quit. When you refuse to ever try again you sentence yourself to being a failure for the rest of your life. If you have missed your goal reset it and go after it again. Take the lessons that you learned and use them to improve your approach. When you learn from your failures you actually get stronger. In order to eventually experience success you simply need to get up one more time than you got knocked down.

3 – Get Going. Don’t allow the negatives associated with the failure grow in stature within your mind. Be anxious to give it a another try. Take action using the lessons that you learned from previous failures. Get going again so that you can put that new-found experience to good use. Use this knowledge to hit your goals faster.

When attempting to get motivated half of the battle is won by just getting started. A big part of the other half is won by the act of keeping on keeping on.

If you have a strong desire for what it is that you want then just start where you are and go after it. Start doing the necessary work. Start hitting your goals on a consistent basis. Doing so will establish momentum.

Success Becomes Easier

Once you have momentum you will get into a rhythm with the task that you are doing and then doing the act of doing the work will become simpler and easier to perform.

When you have ” the Big Mo” on your side is important that you maintain it. There has been times when I have failed to get what I was aiming at, yet I still wound up unexpectedly getting something else that was just as good. I believe that these serendipitous events occurred as a result of positive momentum that I had previously set in motion.

Motivation Is Increased

When you bear down , do the work, and establish momentum you create opportunities. Once you start to start to experience the benefits of momentum then motivation is no longer a problem. It becomes easy to keep doing the work because you are starting to see positive results that come from it.

Continued positive reinforcement will give you confidence and the motivation to persist.

Persistence, in turn, gives you endurance. And if you endure in doing the proper work over time you will eventually get what it is that you are working for. You will succeed because you refuse to give up doing the work. With persistence you demonstrate your determination to do the work until you get what you want.

When you establish momentum by consistently doing the work you make this entire process work smoothly in your favor.

So for increased motivation get started, stay consistent and let momentum kick in. Use that positive drive to develop persistence. Then stay steady doing the work until you experience the successful accomplishment of your aspiration.
