Setting goals and achieving them has benefits which extend beyond you actually experiencing success and receiving what you want. You gain skills that you did not have before. You get experiences that you can apply to future tasks. And most importantly you become a better person.

It is not what you come by hitting your goals it is the person that you become that matters most.

Some people set a goal to become rich. They sacrifice all else to become wealthy. In the process they may lose their family, their health and their good name. They end up a rich person, but they are not happy. Because they have become a person who has money but in the process they have lost the other things that matter most.

When you set a goal be sure you do so with the thought of who you plan on becoming.

Your success is determined by how well who you really are matches up with how you see yourself. If you see yourself as a winner and you are pursuing a goal which makes you a winner then you will feel successful.

Identify the person that you would like to be. And set your goals around this identity. You will certainly enjoy the ride and you will like the person that you become in the process.

Goal achievement leads to major accomplishments in life. Many of our dreams which seem impossible on the surface can materialize into reality when we apply a successful goal setting process. Here are 3 tips for successfully setting and achieving your goals.

Write it Down-When setting your goal write it down. Your goal begins to become real the moment you write it down. Until then it is a mere wish or dream. When you write your goal down you give yourself a target. You can read your goal out loud everyday to program it into your subconscious mind. When you do that you burn the objective into your mind.

With your target clearly identified you will find it easier to stay on track. If ever you feel as if you are off course you can simply refer back to your written goals. When your goal is only in your head and not written on paper you cannot always instantly recall it.

Take Consistent Action- In order to succeed get started and don’t quit. No matter the setbacks or disappointments you must keep taking action. Once you stop you postpone your success. It is so hard to get yourself going again it you stop. Momentum plays a major role in goal achievement. Use it to your advantage. As Newton’s First Law of Motion states, “An object at rest tends to stay at rest and an object in motion tends to stay in motion.”

Commit to taking concrete steps towards the accomplishment of your goal everyday. If you are consistent at taking the proper actions then your success is virtually assured.

Reward Yourself- When you meet your objectives give yourself rewards. Sometimes we make the mistake of waiting until we have actually hit the goal before we celebrate. That is a mistake. You should enjoy the journey. With every milestone that you reach you should recognize it and celebrate it with a reward.

Rewarding yourself gives you something to look forward to in the short-term while you are pursuing your long-term goal. This helps build your persistence. You are less likely to give up when you know you have another reward that you are about to receive. You can keep up the pace for a little while longer, knowing that you are going to be rewarded for your efforts.

String enough of these celebrations together and you will accomplish your goal before you even realize it. Your journey will be filled with more fun and excitement as you go from one successful achievement to the next.

Goal setting is the foundation to success. There are common causes for mistakes that occur when people fail to hit their goals. Here are 3 reasons why people miss hitting their goals.

Wrong Goal- If you set the wrong goal then you will not be able to do the work necessary to succeed at hitting that goal. All successful goal achievement requires that you pay a price. You will give up and quit if you are not willing to pay that price. It will get too hard.

Solution: Get clear on the objective that means the most to you before you set your goal. See the end game. Make sure that the accomplishment of the goal will give you exactly what you want. If it does not then you have the wrong goal.

Brainstorm until you come up with the ideal outcome that you want to experience. Once you are clear on what it is that you want then you can set the best goal to help you obtain it. When the dream is big enough then the facts don’t count. You will accomplish amazing results when you have a big dream that matters greatly to you. Setting goals that lead to you obtaining your dream gives you the endurance needed to continue doing the work. Set the goal that will result in you achieving your dream and you will have what it takes to persevere.

Big Goal-You do not want to set goals that are too big in scope. If your goal is too big then you will become overwhelmed with the work required to achieve it. When the goal is too large then you lose hope and eventually give up.

Solution: Break your big goal up into smaller goals. You should have goals that are broken down into bite-sized pieces. This way after you hit one small part of the goal you can then proceed to the next. You will find yourself gaining momentum as you complete each small goal. Setting and hitting small goals in a sequential order keeps your motivation and excitement levels high. You will stay motivated by the positive results that you are experiencing as you move forward.

Unclear Goal- Set clear goals. If you have weak or fuzzy goals then you will not be able to stay on track. You cannot get what you really want if you do not identify it. Eventually you will feel like it does not matter what you do because nothing yields the results that you desire.

Solution: You need a specific goal in order for it to be a strong one. This may take some time, but you need to determine exactly what you want. What do you wish to accomplish? When do you want to accomplish it? Write down a statement that clearly identifies your main objective. This exercise will help you set a specific goal.

Specific goals give you a clear target to hit. With clarity comes power. You will gain a sharper focus. You also increase your ability to stick with tasks until you accomplish your main objectives.

Actually doing something instead of just thinking about it is crucial to your success. Dreaming is good but only as it pertains to knowing what to set goals for.

Get Expert Help

If you can locate someone who has done what you are wanting to do, latch on to him and he will most likely be happy to help you set goals to reach. Of course, you can always attend expensive seminars and travel to meetings to teach you these things. It may be best to check out the book offerings and even a few tapes, as these can show you opportunities for making proper achievement in your life.

Proper Choices

The books you choose to read and follow can have a great impact upon your success or failure. Reading alone will not do it, though. Making proper choices as to what to tackle first, among things like health, finances, religious endeavors and so forth, is important.

Others are family, social matters and your education. Each of these can be approached a little at a time. No one goal should contradict another, in one of the other areas. Take care in seeing that they all point to your ultimate success.

Sub-conscious Programing

Your sub-conscious will keep thinking about what information you put into it so be careful what you put on its plate. Even while you are sleeping the part of your brain you do not actively control will continue to function. Write down, as well as read and think about, your goals. Often times you may wake up with an answer.

Keep your goal setting active and always slightly out of reach with out a little work on your part. Stay on task, and be sure that everything you do each day is edging you a little closer to achievement. Never give up.

Successful goal achievement requires steady effort. In order to hit your goals you will need to develop perseverance. Here are 3 ways to improve your perseverance.

Readjust your plan-When faced with repeated failure it easy to get discouraged. You may even feel like quitting. When you get knocked down over and over again it is hard to keep getting back up. So often it is not brute force that you need, but a new perspective.

When you are so close to the battle that you can’t see the forest for the trees you need to take a step back. Take a look at your results. Figure out what is working and what is not working. Then reexamine your plan. Is your plan a feasible plan? Most of the time you can only formulate a good plan after you have gotten sub par results from the original plan.

When Thomas Edison was asked if he was frustrated by failing so many times in his attempt to invent the light bulb he said, “I do not feel like I have failed.” “We now know a thousand ways not to build a light bulb.”

Reduce your goal- Break your big goal up into smaller pieces. A goal to lose 50 pounds in 10 months can be a daunting goal on the surface. But if you break it down to a goal of losing 5 pounds ever month over the next ten months then you have a goal that looks achievable.

When you set goals that require sustained effort you need to have small goals which lead to your big goal. That way as you are victorious with each of the smaller goals you gain confidence, momentum and excitement. This fuels your motivation and keeps you focused on moving forward.

Reward yourself- Celebrate your victories. Stop to recognize the many successes that you achieve along the way to hitting your goal.

These rewards can be simple. For example you can take the day off after you have reached a milestone in your journey. You could have a desert if you have successfully stuck to your diet and worked out for 21 consecutive days.

Be creative come up with ways to reward yourself for staying on track. Include others in your celebration. You can get your whole family involved. Tell them, in advance, that you plan on doing something special when you hit a certain goal.

Not only will your family start cheering for you to succeed, but they will begin doing things to help and encourage you to accomplish your goal. This extra support can be just what you need. It can make a difference between exhilarating success and monotonous failure.

by Anthony D Carter

Goal achievement contributes to increased happiness and fulfillment. In order to consistently hit your goals you need a process that yields dependable results. Here is a 5 point game plan for successfully setting and achieving goals.

Dream big. Do a dream building session in which you identify everything that you would like to do, be and have in your life. Really let yourself go. Perhaps you want a new car. Or maybe you want to have your ideal body weight. You may even want to be a classically trained pianist. No matter what it is do not limit yourself. Act as if anything were possible and set your sites on the dream that resonates the most with you.

Write it out. Now write that dream down. Then map out a plan for making it come true. Write your goals out and look at them on a regular basis. Establish your work habits by creating a checklist and marking off the tasks as you complete each one.

Take action now. After you have determined what your goal is and you have mapped out a game plan you want to begin taking action immediately. Do not worry if you make mistakes in the beginning. Fear of failure is the number one thing that holds most people back. As you continue to take action your results will improve. You will start achieving the goals that you set in direct proportion to the amount of action that you take.

Monitor and adjust. Keep a journal of your progress. All of your successes and failures are kept in their proper prospective when you record them in your journal. You are able to go back and read your entries without being so emotionally involved. While reading your regular entries you are able to see whether you are progressing or regressing. Then you can adjust your plan accordingly. This helps you to stay on track while not succumbing to frustration and disappointment.

Persist until completion. So much of your success with achieving goals occurs beyond the point where you felt like giving up. If you do not quit you will eventually succeed. When you feel like stopping or giving up bring to remembrance your dream. Visualize goals as if they were already accomplished and you have obtained your dream. Imagine what it would feel like. It is your dream that gives you inspiration. This inspiration fuels your motivation. When you are sufficiently motivated you will not have a challenge remaining persistent. You will be able to keep moving forward until you achieve your goal and get what you want.

By Anthony D Carter

Setting goals is the key to continued success in life. It is far easier to set solid goals if you have a solid formula for doing so. SMART goals give you that formula. Here are seven tips for setting goals the SMART way.

The acronym SMART stands for goals that are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely.

Specific- Make your goal numbers based. If you want to become rich do not set a goal for having a whole lot of money. Instead set your goal in this way: I make $50,000 a month starting on January 21, 2015. That is a very specific goal that you can set your sites on.

Tip 1-When you have specific goals it is easier to see the target. You can get clear on the destination you are striving to reach. With a specific target you can gather all the knowledge and skill that is necessary to hit the goal. When you don’t have goals that you can easily identify you it is hard to focus all of your efforts on one aim.

Measurable- Make you goal a measurable objective. That is the reason why you need a goal that is based on attaining targets that are numbers based. You will need to have numbers to refer to in order to know if you are on target or off track.

Tip 2-The more specific that your goal is the easier it will be for you to know when you are progressing towards actually achieving it.

Tip 3- Keep a journal of your progress. It will help to motivate you to hit your goals.

Attainable – Set goals which are attainable. Getting rich overnight is not a good goal. It is not something that you can do with just the setting of a goal. Be sure your goal is not impossible. You want to have a goal that is something that is within reach.

Tip 4- Set goals that you believe are achievable and you will have the persistence that is needed to weather the storms. When faced with struggles and setbacks it is easier to overcome them when you believe deep down that you can hit your goal.

Realistic- If your goal is not realistic then you are destined for frustration and futility. If you set a goal to become a millionaire in 2 months and you are only making $2,000 a month right now then you are setting yourself up to fail. It is not a realistic goal to go from making $2,000 to making a million in just 2 months.

It would be wiser to set a goal which builds up to a million dollars over a longer period of time. It gives you the ability to grow into the goal by acquiring the skills, knowledge and confidence that is required to earn that amount of money.

Tip 5- A SMART goal would be, “I am a millionaire within 3 years from today.” That way you can game plan a strategy which puts time on your side.

Tip 6- In order to be a good one your goal should stretch you but it should not be impossible for you to achieve it.

Timely- Your goal should have a deadline. You need to have an estimated time of completion. And you should plan that out in advance. You should also set your goal with a realistic time-frame.

Tip 7- A deadline on your goal helps you eliminate procrastination.

Goal achievement happens when you take certain steps to insure your success. You can succeed at hitting your goals if you keep these seven tips in mind.

Dream Big. Let yourself go. Do not put limits on yourself. Act as if you had the money or time to do what you want. Then write down everything that you want to be, do, or have in your life. Just brainstorm as if anything were possible for you. After you finish, segment your dreams into the logical categories that they would naturally fit in. Next you want to set a goal in each of those areas. And it is important that you write each of your goals down.

Put a date on it. The date is the activating mechanism for your goal. It is the thing that gives you the sense of urgency that you will need. Without a deadline you have no anticipated date of achievement. This makes it easy for the debilitating habit of procrastination to take hold.

Take Action. Get started. Nothing significant happens until you actually take action. You can dream about it. You can think about it. You can talk about it. But until you actually begin taking the steps to make your dreams come true your goal will remain a wish.

Build in Accountability. Get a partner that you can be accountable to. It helps to have someone who will hold you to your word. They can also give you encouragement and feedback. This can help you stay inspired and on track. For additional benefits become a part of a mastermind team. When you have another person on your team you can get better results because of the synergy that normally flows between two people with the same aim.

Be Patient. As the saying goes Rome wasn’t built in a day. And it is highly unlikely that you will set a goal and wake up the next day to see that you have hit it without any effort whatsoever. So give it time. Your efforts will yield benefits that compound over time. Eventually you will see the fruits of your labor. Remember, first there is sowing season, then comes growing season and lastly, there is harvest season

Visualize it Often. See your goal as already accomplished. Visualize what you want. The better you can picture what you want the stronger the magnetic pull will be that draws it to you.

“Picture yourself vividly as winning and that alone will contribute
immeasurably to success. Great living starts with a picture,
held in your imagination, of what you would like to do or be.”
~ Harry Emerson Fosdick

See yourself successfully accomplishing your goal as often as you can throughout the day. This builds your expectancy level as it programs your subconscious to direct you towards what you want.

Reward Yourself. Celebrate when you succeed with any part of your goals. Do not wait until you have hit your goal to celebrate. Reward yourself for hitting certain milestones along the way. If you have a goal to lose 20 pounds in 90 days it will help you if you took a break to do something fun after you lost 10 pounds in 45 days. This builds your endurance and keeps you excited.

Setting goals helps you to accomplish great things. In order to hit the goals that you set keep these 5 keys in mind.

Write. Be sure to write your goals down. It has been said that the palest ink is better than the sharpest memory. When you write your goals down you start the process towards causing them to materialize in your life. A written statement of what you are striving to be, do, or have can keep you focused and on track.

Read. Reading your goals everyday helps to keep your attention centered on what you are trying to accomplish. If you do not continue to read your goals regularly the daily situations and circumstances will pull your focus in opposite directions.

Affirm. Speak positive affirmations. When you speak affirmations you help to impress your goal onto your subconscious mind. Speaking affirmations also help you to center your focus on what you want and off of what you don’t want.

Visualize. Create mental pictures of what you want to accomplish. You will have a easier time hitting your goals if you can visualize the end result that you desire. A vision board helps too. When you visualize what you want you trick your subconscious mind into believing that actually have what you want. The more that you can do that the more your subconscious will guide you to solutions for overcoming your obstacles.

Persist. Above all you need persistence in order to realize your dreams. You must stick it out even when you don’t get the quick results. As long as your plan is sound and you are consistently doing the work you will eventually succeed in hitting your goals.

PAT – Pick A Target: Figure out what you want. Get very clear on what it is that you desire. Take the necessary time to make a decision on what it is that you want to accomplish or obtain. Once you have a clear picture of the target that you are trying to hit and you have solid reasons for attempting to hit it then you have a strong reason for maintaining motivation until you obtain what you want.

BYC – Believe You Can: Believe that you can accomplish what you set out to do. Your belief determines the level of your effort. You will find it easy to put forth a strong effort to have what you want if you truly believe that you can actually have it. Know this: “What ever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” ~ Napoleon Hill.

MAP – Make A Plan: Map out a plan for accomplishing what you want to do. A good plan eliminates confusion and supports your belief. When you put intelligent thought into your planning you make the tasks easier to accomplish. You also avoid unnecessary delays by implementing forethought. A good plan allows you to simply connect the dots on the way from where you are to where you want to be. A solid plan builds your expectation and gets you fired up about getting started.

SCG – Set Compelling Goals: Set goals which stretch you. Make them lead you to what you want. Your goals should support your burning desire. After you pick a target you need to determine what needs to be done in order for you to hit that target. This is where goal setting comes in. You need to have clear work goals which, if done according your plan, will lead you directly to achieving what you set out to do. When you set your goals properly you’ll gain enthusiasm from each one that you hit. The excitement that you generate then leads to high levels of motivation.
