“Procrastination is opportunity’s assassin.”  ~Victor Kiam

Procrastination can rob you of your initiative and drive. When you develop a habit of putting things off you weaken your ability to take advantage of opportunities. You become passive. Your life becomes one big waiting game. This doesn’t have to continue. You can break the habit of putting things off. Here are three tips for eliminating procrastination:

1. Start-The quickest route to getting done begins with you making a start. Just get stared. It doesn’t have to be perfect, it just needs to get done. After you have gotten started you can make adjustments along the way. You will get a huge rush of adrenaline from starting a task that you had been putting off doing for a long time. You will have a better outlook towards doing what you have to do.

2. Keep Going- After you have begun then the next step is to focus on the task at hand until you are done. You do this by developing consistent work habits. You want to establish a routine whereby your work gets done  on auto pilot. Systematize what you are doing if it involves repetitive motions. You can also make a plan. Write a to do list and dedicate yourself to consistently taking action  until you have checked off everything on your list. Once you develop a rhythm you will have momentum. With momentum on your side your work becomes easier to do.

3. Finish- Once you have a roll going keep it going until you are done. Do not let up. A good way to build persistence is through the use of focus. Focus on the desired outcome. Picture the results that you want to accomplish as if you have already successfully completed your task. This works well to help you hit the goals that you have set. When you have a clear picture of the desired outcome in mind you are compelled to keep working until reality matches your mental picture.
